A new AI-powered search experience combining generative responses with a traditional document navigation.

The goal was simple: let users get quick, relevant insights while maintaining access to the depth of structured documentation. We designed a Hybrid Search experience that combines AI-generated responses with a traditional document-based view, allowing users to get quick contextual answers while keeping access to detailed, structured content while staying faithful to its privacy-by-design principles.

My Role

As Product Designer, I led the UX/UI design of the new search experience, working closely with the Front & backend teams and Technical writing team. My contributions included:

  • Defining the user flows for hybrid search.

  • Designing a clear dual-layer interface that balances speed and precision.

  • Collaborating on the integration of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) within the UX.

  • Prototyping and gathering feedback to refine.

Outcome

The new search experience significantly improved content discoverability and user trust, turning the search bar into a true assistant rather than a simple query box.

Recognized with the award for Best AI-Augmented User Experience in a Developer Portal, Hybrid Search demonstrates how AI and UX can work together enhancing understanding and findability.
